Style Guide: Staying Home and Watching Movies

Our community of readers, followers, and customers has never been totally impacted in the same way it is right now. From Los Angeles to Seattle, Sun Valley, and New York City, our shop is wishing you and your family well in this incredibly uncertain time. Please take care of yourselves—go for a walk, get some exercise, and don’t forget to breathe. Whether you’re working in your PJs or getting used to some new homeschooling dynamics, there’s a good chance we all have some movie watching in our future (quick tip for families with children: if you aren’t subscribed to your Internet provider’s fastest level, you might want to consider the investment. Streaming Netflix while your younger ones go to class online can put some serious pressure on your bandwidth).

1. Update your throws

It’s time to break up with your old blankets. Before you get too settled, treat yourself with something cozier—like this organic knit option from our shop. It’s totally safe in your washing machine (score), and the heavyweight weave makes it the perfect addition to any movie marathon. The gray color is my personal favorite, but it also comes in white and pebble. If you’re feeling extra snuggly, grab one of our Coyuchi Three Season Down Comforters. Slightly oversized and perfectly weighted for spring and fall temperatures, these blankets will elevate your watch party to a whole new level of comfy. Available in twin, queen/full, and king sizes.

2. Splurge on fancy popcorn bowls

I’ve always had a crush on these Ceramic Serving Bowls, and this set of 3 is perfect for divvying up popcorn or snacks. Stylish and sophisticated, you’ll be loving them long after these work-from-home days are over. And since they’re microwave and dishwasher safe, you don’t need to worry about taking any extra time for special care. They are ceramic though, (black terra cotta dipped in a super pretty white glaze—swoon!), so I probably wouldn’t recommend them for families with young children. We all know how that one goes!

3. Wash your hands!

I know… this one is cheating a little. But here’s your friendly reminder to wash your hands, sing “Happy Birthday” twice, and avoid hoarding more than what you need (like hand sanitizer and toilet paper). If you’re getting restless at home, our Hex Soap Dish can brighten up those twenty seconds you’re spending at the sink—hopefully more than once a day! It’s designed for round soap, so keep that in mind when you’re checking out.

I know things are scary and may feel a little surreal, but it’s important to create an environment that makes you feel calm and relaxed. Whether you’re splurging on some new blankets or just committing to your next binge-worthy series, take care of yourself and your family. We’ll get through it!
