Two Tips for Transforming Your Quarantine Remodel
You don’t need to be following any interior designers, influencers, or home stagers to see plenty of remodeling inspiration these days. It seems like my feed is full of people redoing their bathrooms, brightening up their bedrooms, and even creating home offices out of coat closets (yes, really).
From quarantine to remote work and job changes, there are plenty of reasons why you might be spending more time at home. If you’ve felt frustrated with your space over the past few months, a pandemic remodel might be just what you need. Take a break from the news, get your hands dirty, and keep reading for some of my favorite products, accessories, and home decor essentials.
1. Upgrade your lighting
Lighting can be hard, which is why it’s one of the things people feel most nervous to do without an interior designer. From bright lights to dim lights, wall lights, pendants, chandeliers, and sconces, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. In general, there are three things to keep in mind when it comes to lighting: choose something functional, make sure it gives off the right amount of light for the space (is it going in a corner, in the middle of your room, next to a natural light source?), and always match the overall style of a room’s aesthetic. If you still can’t choose, send me a message on our Instagram @lathaminteriors!
Depending on the size of the fixture, lighting can be one of the more expensive parts of your remodel investment—but if you really want to make a difference in a room, the right light can make a huge impact. Especially since our days are getting shorter, it’s the perfect time to find something that brings warmth, calm, and happiness to your home. For brighter, more feminine spaces, I love our Valley Chandelier. The gold powder coating and modern frame make this a really fun and contemporary fixture for your home office, master bathroom, or walk-in closet.
If you’re settling into a more permanent work-from-home routine or adjusting to the back-to-school season, I think you’ll love our Simple Table Lamp. Offered in white, black, silver, and gold finishes, there are plenty of options for matching the style or hardware in your office or study room. Whether you’re an early bird or night owl, it’s the perfect way to treat your “new normal” self to something that makes you feel productive.
2. Give your bathroom a facelift
You’d be surprised how little it takes to completely change your home bathroom. With the right mirror, you can make a space feel bigger, warmer, more dramatic, and more. Some of my favorites are our Finn Mirror, Olo Mirror, and Lander Mirror. For a more complete makeover, try adding fixtures like our Anton Sconce on either side.
Especially for those of us who are spending our workdays at home, changing up your soaps and lotions can make a familiar room feel like new. Our All-Natural Hand Soap is one of our best-selling home and body care products, and I love that it is made without any harsh chemicals. I’m washing my hands so much right now, and this soap’s gentleness is a big plus. For that extra level of luxury and self-care, grab some Bubble Bath supplies and candle holders.
Going into fall, the colder weather has us all spending more time inside. If you’ve been feeling restless, inspired, or just anxious to start a project, redesigning your favorite or most-used spaces can help you feel productive and in control.
